Course Learning Objectives

To develop a core framework for the macroeconomic analysis of a country, and to apply the framework to analyze the main global macroeconomic events of the early 21st century as well as a set of selected challenges ahead.

CONTENT

1. Basic Macro Indicators

Identification and definition of the set of indicators commonly used to track the macroeconomic performance of a country.

Interactive Lecture

2. Countries & Economic Globalization

Discussion of accounting tools helpful to think about the economic situation of a country, the interactions across countries, and the meaning of globalization.

3. The Early Century Crisis & Policy Response

Analysis of the main ingredients of the 2008-09 Great Recession and of the policy response to deal with it

4. The Long Crisis Aftermath

Analysis of the main international economic events during the aftermath of the Great Recession.
