COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

Providing an overall understanding of the global economy

Course Learning Objectives

The objective of the course is to use economic analysis to think about countries that operate in a globalized context, narrating and discussing global economic events and debates of the early 21st century, with main emphasis on the macro and economic growth dimensions.

Public Debt, Welfare State and the Austerity Debate
The Secular Stagnation Debate
Europe at a Crossroad
The Debate on Inequality
Populism & the Future of Globalization
The Debate on Climate Change

Methodology

Lecturing will be combined with class presentations and discussions. Working in groups, participants will prepare selected topics and present them to the class. Then debate, basic guiding lecturing and wrap up will follow. Each topic will involve presentations based on a combination of selected core materials from academic, policy and specialized media sources. These materials will be complemented by participants with additional external sources coming from their own exploration of the topic.

Class Participation......15%
Final In-class Exam....25%
