Workload distribution

This is a 12 ECTS course, which means that students are expected to dedicate approximately 300 hours of workload. (25 hours per ECTS). This workload encompasses various activities, including blended classes, both in-person and online, synchronous, or asynchronous, autonomous student work inside or outside the confines of the class, study time, or any other time dedicated to the subject.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

The International Ecosystem I is given at the end of the second year of the program. The course "International Ecosystems I: How to take advantage of the German Marketplace aims to equip our students who want to become agents of change with the "tools" they need to excel in unfamiliar environments and take advantage of any ecosystem for social impact. Then, the course helps the students immerse into one of the most vibrant and active ecosystems in Europe and Worldwide, providing a hands-on experience and a direct immersion in the local culture, startup and corporate ecosystems. It encourages BITLASI's students to stepped out their comfort zones and lived through experiences that are very difficult to learn within the confines of a classroom, gaining all these tools.

Course Learning Objectives

- Understand Europe as a playing field.
- Unlearn to learn: use skills and knowledge in a different environment.
- Learn and experience first hand european trends and their impact on people and industries
- Exploring Europe: Share time as a team overcoming different challenges together, share Learning Contracts, dream about Berlin, prepare projects ready to pitch, discover Europe & Germany (Cities, History and Culture).
- Basecamp Berlin: Visit companies and entrepreneurs, get inspired, radical innovation, mind blowing experiences, alternative culture, tech for good, startup culture, create a network of people.

Methodology

The International Ecosystems I Course provides a combination of class lectures (Modules) and Group Projects, including a Project Work to be executed on site under the specifications of a Startup, VC fund or Corporate. The Lecture Modules cover individual topics from a theoretical point of view, while the group projects provide an immediate opportunity to put the theory to practice and have a direct exposure to the local environment through a series of challenges as well as interacting and, crucially, receiving feedbacks from Companies and Professionals.

Assessment criteria

Students will be evaluated on a combination of active class participation, understanding and applying core concepts and on group projects, including the Project Work with Startups/VCs/Corporates.

- Lectures (Modules): 40%
- Group Projects (includes intermediate deliverables): 35%
Peer evaluation is applied for group projects.
