COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
Social philosophy enables students to understand how contemporary society, within which lawyers perform their role, is structured. Students will acquire the analytical tools needed to systematically engage with social reality, and in particular, to evaluate the consequences of juridical regulations on people's lives and societies. These consequences are evaluated from an ethical point of view and encourage the students to think in terms of ethical actions (individual and collective) that correct the dehumanising consequences of applying Law to societies.
Course Learning Objectives
- Acquire knowledge related to the recent history of developed and developing nations.
- Acquire knowledge related to the principal challenges facing contemporary societies.
- Develop ability for the analysis of social realities from the point of view of a systemic analysis model.
- Exercise ethical reasoning in the analysis of the social problems addressed.

Assessment criteria
The final mark has three components:
a) The ongoing assessment mark (50% of students' overall mark)
b) The final exam mark (50% of the overall grade)
b) The mark for students' attitudes and class participation (raiing or lowering the final mark by 1 point after calculating the average of the ongoing assessment mark and the final exam mark).
Students must score at least a 5 out of 10 on the ongoing assessment component to be able to sit the First Sitting of the exam. If their ongoing assessment mark is less than 4, students will fail the subject, and their ongoing assessment mark will be their overall mark for the course.
Students must also score at least a 4 out of 10 on the Final Exam to be able to calculate the average between the Final Exam mark and the ongoing assessment mark. If they score less than a 4 out of 10 on the final exam, students will fail the course and their final exam mark will be their overall mark for the course.
After re-sitting the final, students will have to earn at least a 5 out of 10 when averaging their marks on this exam and their ongoing assessment mark. To be able to average the two marks, students must earn at least a 4 out of 10 on the re-sit exam.
Failure to attend group work classes and the consequent failure to take the relevant tests will result in a mark of 0 out of 10 for the tests in question, except in the event that the absence is duly justified. If the absence is justified and the justification is accepted, the test that was not taken will be annulled and the average will calculated on the basis of the remaining tests. However, failing to attend 3 group work classes, even if justified, disqualifies the student from all the ongoing assessment component.
Should faculty detect any student cheating or trying to cheat during a test or exam, they will receive a mark of 0 out of 10 on that activity.
Any student who does not pass:
1. The course during the FIRST SITTING OF THE FINAL EXAM due to not attending class, not completing the set activities or copying them will not be assessed in the EXAM RE-SIT and will therefore have to take the course again and complete the set activities the faculty indicate.
2. Have the level of required competences will be able to move on from this year of the programme to the next so long as the course has been passed, but they will not be able to complete the final degree project without having acquired the required competence levels for the programme.
Bibliography
Faculty will provide students with a dossier of the set readings for each topic. Students must study these readings in-depth and assimilate their content.
