Previous Knowledge
This course further develops the framework topics covered in Business Policy I (BBA). It is expected that students understand the basic aspects underpinning sector analysis and strategy formulation, which will enable a greater practical focus.
As the BBA curriculum introduces the Business Policy II course in the final year students will have completed a range of core courses on policy and strategy in the different functional areas. This makes it possible to maintain a focus on the development of an integrated vision of the company and strategic thinking.
Workload distribution
Workload distribution:
Business Policy II is an intensive subject completed in ten sessions over the course of two weeks.
In the sessions, the workload will be distributed as follows:
1. Contact hours: 40.5 h
These hours will be spread out over ten 4.5-hour lecture sessions involving discussions of theory and concepts, debates, role-playing, application exercises, and forums with executives.
2. Preparatory work: 60 h
These hours will be distributed as follows:
- Reading case studies and completing exercises (15 h)
- Debates, discussion and the preparation of case studies in small groups (15 h)
- Required reading (15 h)
- Research in the library or virtual library (5 h)
- Preparation of the final application exercise (5 h)
- Debate, discussion and undertaking of final application exercise in small groups (5 h)
COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
Business Policy II will enable students to:
- Develop a comprehensive and integrated vision of the company.
- Make contact with general managers and engage in debate with them on general-management decisions.
- Learn about new strategic management tools.
- Develop an understanding of business reality (in both national and international firms).
- Improve teamwork skills.

Methodology
From a methodological point of view this course aims to foster individual learning and group work, as well as enabling the effective integration of knowledge learnt in policy and strategy courses related to a range of functional areas. Therefore the following pedagogical methods are used:
- Theoretical classes
- Group preparation and discussion of case studies
- Presentations on set reading
- Student debates
- Forums with participation from executives
- Group summaries of classes
- Case study competitions

Assessment criteria
In order to pass the subject, students must:
- Score at least 18 out of 35 on the final examination
- Score at least 50 out of 100 on the final overall mark for this course
