Workload distribution

Workload distribution:
Class hours 100
Independent study 70

Observations:

Class attendance is obligatory. Students who miss more than 25% of the class will not be able to do the final exam and will be marked NP, no presentado, resulting in a loss of their first convocatoria. They will have to take the resit exam in July using their second convocatoria. Students who miss more than 25% of the Presentation module will not be allowed to give the final presentation and will receive a mark of "zero" for the module.
As the language classes are in small groups, full participation on the part of the student is expected throughout. Students receive continuous feedback on their learning and their performance throughout the course.

Given the nature of language acquisition, the figure given for independent study is no more than an approximation: students will be given tasks and assignments to work on outside class, but in addition to this, they are expected to actively seek further learning opportunities.

Course Learning Objectives

In an increasingly international business environment, a good command of English is also essential for effective communication to take place, not only with native speakers but also as a lingua franca between non-native speakers.

Students have experience in language learning and will have developed competencies in the acquisition of foreign languages.

Assessment criteria

Competence development
Competence 21 (The ability to use English fluently and effectively) is evaluated on the basis of all the activities, assignments and examinations indicated above. The final grade for the course is converted to a scale of 1 to 4, where 4 is excellent and 1 needs further work. This independent indicator aims to monitor each student's progress throughout the programme, to provide feedback and to invite reflection and further action.

Class attendance is obligatory. Students who miss more than 25% of the class will not be able to do the final exam and will be marked NP, no presentado, resulting in a loss of their first convocatoria. They will have to take the resit exam in July using their second convocatoria. Students who miss more than 25% of the Presentation module will not be allowed to give the final presentation and will receive a mark of `zero¿ for the module.

Additionally, the students will be given feedback directly in the class on Competence 4, the ability to communicate information or knowledge effectively, both orally and in writing, and taking audience characteristics into account. This will be worked on by means of the summary and opinion task and the presentation.

Students must obtain a score of at least 50% both in the written and oral parts of the year's work. In the resits students need only retake the part that they have failed. At subsequent resits, however, students must retake both the oral and written components.
