Workload distribution

Module 1: Public speaking and communication
Through 4 three-hour-long sessions, students will gain practical experience on the keys to effective public presentations.

Module 2: "Comunica" (Communication) Workshop planning
In teams, students will plan the different activities and classroom dynamics they'll apply during the "Comunica" Workshop as part of Module 3. This module also consists of 4 three-hour-long sessions.

Module 3: "Communica" workshop
This workshop represents the service component that all students have to complete. Students will work in teams of 5 and visit high schools to teach students about public speaking and communication skills. The workshop consists of 3 two-hour-long sessions. The aim is for ESADE students to help high schools students improve their communication skills while, at the same time, putting into practice and improving their own.

There will also be a final three-hour-long session to wrap up the course.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

ESADE's primary mission is to educate people to develop their professional competencies to the utmost while also ensuring that they are fully aware of their social responsibility.

Through this "Training in social leadership" course, we feel that our students not only have to be excellent professionally but that they also have to develop a strong sense of social commitment. In the future, this will help them to become executives who are reflective and sensitive towards diversity and aware of their personal and professional responsibility towards society. They will become leaders who have nurtured their own human quality and their sense of solidarity and justice.

Through this course, we develop the skills students need to gain a holistic and general view of organisations and the settings in which they operate.

Course Learning Objectives

The general objective of this course is two-fold:
1. For ESADE students to motivate and lead teams (the high school students participating in the "Comunica" Workshop) for them to learn to speak in public.
2. For ESADE students to fine-tune and develop their own public-speaking skills and abilities.

Specific course objectives:

Public-speaking objectives:
- Develop excellent oral presentation skills, capturing and maintaining the audience's attention and engaging them in the topic at hand.
- Acquire skills to improve how they speak in public, implying knowledge and practical experience regarding verbal and non-verbal communication which strengthens the speakers' messages and heightens contact with the audience.
- Acquire skills to enhance the content of their presentations, preparing and structuring the topic to be discussed.
- Acquire notions on how to keep their fears in check when speaking in public and how to empathise with the audience.

Social leadership and community service objectives:
- Reinforce students' service orientation and help them see it as a means to learn.
- Develop students' leadership skills, inspiring and motivating the high school students so that they appreciate and improve their communication skills.
- Understand that improving high school students¿ oral communication skills is an educational and social need requiring action.
- Plan, implement and evaluate a concrete project ("Comunica" Workshop) along with the high schools and their students.
- Work in teams, sharing information and actively working together.
- Develop and show empathy in the relations established with different generations of people (high school teachers and students) and different social sectors.

Individual and teamwork objectives:
- Strengthen teamwork by sharing information, assuming responsibility and actively collaborating with the rest of the team.
- Develop students' self-awareness and trust in their own resources, both in terms of public speaking as well as in their ability to motivate and manage groups.
