Prerequisites

As established by the Management of the BBA programme, students have to have taken the previous Economics courses.

Previous Knowledge

Foundations acquired in the previous academic courses, in particular the courses and activities offered by the Department of Economics (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, etc.)

COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

The course integrates knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics to an applied perspective, which underpins a combined vision of the analysis and decision taking within companies and organisations.

Course Learning Objectives

Acquisition of knowledge regarding the environment companies and organisations operate in, as well as the formulation of short, mid and long-term scenarios.

Development of skills to gather, analyse and interpret economic indicators.

Integrate analysis of the global economic environment into the decision-making processes used in companies and organisations from a functional, as well as sectoral and geographical perspective.

CONTENT

1. The economic, political, social, cultural and technological setting.

2. Globalisation, mulilaterality, international trade negotiations. Emerging economies.

3. Global financial system. Monetary policies. Currency markets. Global imbalances.

4. Analysis of selected developed and emerging economies

5. Looking ahead (I): immediate macro challenges for the global economy

6. Looking ahead (II): the challenge of global sustainable development

Methodology

Methodology adapted to the course topic: we will use both economic models as well as case study discussions and exercise resolution activities.

Assessment criteria

Assessment of the combined elements of the course through a final written exam.
