COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
In a changing environment in which new ways to reach consumers are changing traditional sales formulas, the retail channel has become increasingly important due to its ability to interact directly with consumers and the opportunities this represents. Understanding the challenges and opportunities stemming from retail growth processes, the fundamental formulas and strategies as well as how to manage cultural and organisational change is essential to ensure the success of the channel.
Course Learning Objectives
Based on a fundamentally practical focus consisting of analysing real case studies and resolving problems (¿challenges¿), students will learn to:
- Identify strategic alternatives to promote growth within the retail channel and address the associated challenges.
- Evaluate strategic options in turbulent settings.
- Understand the corporate change processes stemming from the company¿s growth in ever-changing environments.
- Become familiar with change management models, analysing them from a practical perspective.
-Identify and understand the key factors to ensure the success of corporate transformation processes.
CONTENT
1. Growth: Strategies and challenges Introduction to retail development formulas: Franchises, corporate units and mixed models. Challenges and opportunities associated to the different formulas. Growth strategies: mergers, diversification, focus. |
2. Management strategies in changing environments Practical approach to the challenges and priorities stemming from a turbulent setting in growth-oriented organisations; leadership formulas. |
3. Leading strategic change Change: Academic models. Basic review of existing models and types of change. Models in practice: a review of the models based on their real application. identification of key levers in transformation processes and leadership tools to ensure success. |

Methodology
Lectures are open to participation by students and combine group exercises (challenges) which will be debated in class once the teams have resolved them.
