Previous Knowledge

Students are assumed to possess the ability to write and present with proficiency in English and with the ability to meet professional business communication standards. Students are expected to have an undergraduate degree in business or a closely related subject major.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

Business leaders in the 21st century are expected to be able to diagnose complicated scenarios, weigh a variety of critical variables, create, communicate, and implement a vision to guide their organization, and ultimately change their organization for the better. This course seeks to develop your ability to effectively lead organizations during critical situations. We will work to help nurture your understanding of and ability to effectively respond to the complex challenges leaders face in organizations in the global context. Through a variety of experiential learning opportunities, students will be better prepared to influence the strategic direction of their organizations in the near future.

Course Learning Objectives

Through this course, students will develop their abilities to:
- Integrate key ideas from the course and connect them to real-world examples of the challenges facing organizations
- Analyze the internal and external demands that leaders must manage for their organization to achieve success
- Design plan(s) that address and balance the internal and external challenges facing an organization
- Reflect on and articulate how organizational challenges influence the lives of internal and external stakeholders of an organization
- Learn skills to manage interpersonal relations and the execution of business projects across multiple levels of organizations and across borders and time zones
- Write, present, and converse effectively and persuasively in a variety of collegial, consulting, and client-based situations across multiple mediums

CONTENT

1. Summery

The course will further student understanding of the role of strategic leaders, with focus on crafting organizational narratives, managing culture at the individual and organizational levels, guiding organizational change, balancing stakeholder expectations, and managing organizational threats.

Methodology

This will be a highly interactive class that will involve individual and group case studies, faculty lectures, guest speakers, short speaking assignments, and team activities.

Assessment criteria

Assessment will occur through both individual and team assignments.
