Previous Knowledge

An Introductory macroeconomics and microeconomics course is helpful but the course does not assume any previous knowledge.

Course Learning Objectives

The aim of this intense 1-week course is for students to acquire the basic tools to be able to understand and approach the context where firms operate and the main external challenges they face. With this objective in mind, the first two sessions concentrate on macroeconomics (or country apporach) analysis, where students familiarize themselves with the main macroeconomic concepts and policies (fiscal, monetary, exchange rate...). The last two sessions concentrate on the microeconomic analysis of the firm: why firms exist, contracts and institutions, regulation and market structure (competition, oligopolies, barriers to entry...) and pricing techniques.
