Course Learning Objectives

The Country Report: How to Negotiate in the World subject is fundamentally practical in nature in terms of the knowledge, capacities and skills needed to prepare and analyse a "Country Report: Doing Business in a Country (or Culture)" dedicated to countries and cultures around the world.

Given its 'doing business in...' focus, the groups' final reports have to adopt a broad perspective (geography, history, demographics, physical and digital connectivity, cross-cultural factors, protocols, cuisine, bibliography and sources of information, etc.). The aim of this course is for students to learn how other people in different countries and cultures around the world interact, avoiding problems which can hinder or destroy a relation or contract. In the area of professional and business negotiations specifically, the course also requires students to apply the knowledge they've acquired to prepare a Doing Business in Country Report. These are generally prepared prior to considering a direct investment opportunity, the outright acquisition of a company, stock purchase, portfolio investment, launch of a product or service in that market, negotiations with a local partner, corporate annual reports, strategic plans for corporations and institutions, financial consulting, market research, etc.

The course strives to develop the competencies and skills students need to search for and analyse information and data found on different international organisation websites, public and private institutions, financial institutions, industry and professional associations, specialised communications media and any primary or secondary source of information, etc.
