Prerequisites
The lectures assume at least a cursory knowledge of international macroeconomics: either from ECON III, or other equivalent course at your university. There is no formal prerequisite for the course, but if you do not have any background in this area, plan extra time to learn basic terminology.

Course Learning Objectives
This course provides in-depth analyses of major economic challenges facing emerging markets. The objective is to provide students with limited previous exposure to the subject with a basic conceptual framework and practical knowledge regarding investments and macroeconomic conditions in emerging markets. The course covers the essential elements of investment decisions in emerging markets as well as basic institutional and macro policy issues affecting emerging markets.

Assessment criteria
The assessment of the course will be based on:
- individual written exam (60%)
- class participation (10%)
- group work (30%): presentation and/or written assignment which might for example involve the analysis of current events or the analysis of a macroeconomic challenge facing a country. The aim of this exercise will be to apply the lessons and models from class to a country today.
A minimum of 80% attendance to class is required to be able to pass the course
