COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

The Master of Science in Business Analytics will certainly provide the knowledge and the skills, through labs and practical exercises, to acquire the necessary level of competence in the discipline. However, nothing substitutes the richness of the actual practice within companies.

The CAPSTONE Project is a Real-life project aimed at providing experience in the use of Big Data, Analytics, Machine Learning & Data-driven projects within a Business perspective. Therefore, it is an opportunity to test and apply the skills learned by the students during the MiBA and, even more, is offers the opportunity to start building a network that could prove invaluable in the future.

CAPSTONE Projects are designed to be developed in groups, thus helping the students acquire and/or reinforce their team building and team working skills, but they can be performed by a single student as well, as long as the student, the Company where the project is to be developed, and the faculty, agree on that

Course Learning Objectives

The main learning objectives of the Corporate Analytics Project are:

1) Live a real company experience.
2) Learn the practicalities of Data Science & Big Data in real environments.
3) Enjoy the opportunity to build a network on the area chosen by the student.
4) Acquire and/or reinforce Team-building and Team-working skills

Methodology

The CAPSTONE project is a group project (or, under special circumstances, an individual work) developed in cooperation with selected Companies, under the guidance of a supervisor from ESADE and a mentor from each Company.
Each Company has its own Project Management methodology so, in order to make the experience as immersive as possible for the students, the CAPSTONE Project will be conducted according to that methodology; in any case, it is expected that the students hold some meetings with their mentor(s) at the Company on a regular basis (the frequency will be determined by the specific characteristics of each combination of Project and Company)

Even though ESADE is connected to a wide variety of Companies and Institutions, students are highly encouraged to bring their own collaboration proposals, so that the CAPSTONE Project is fully aligned to their interests

Assessment criteria

Students will submit a Mid-term report and the Final report, describing their work, experience and learnings. Both reports will be presented to the ESADE Faculty and the participating Company through a live presentation and/or a recorded video presentation.
Together with the reports, the final mark of the CAPSTONE Project will take into account the team members' peer review and the Company assessment, regarding the performance of the team throughout the CAPSTONE Project.
