COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

The aim is to complement traditional management views and certain key concepts, including strategy, leadership and motivation, with an anthropological perspective.

Course Learning Objectives

Organisations and societies establish shared patterns in terms of both behaviours and beliefs. This common understanding of how things should be done represents the basis for what we refer to as social capital in organisations and culture in societies. Identifying how these patterns and shared understanding evolve, especially in times of change, is the key pedagogical purpose of this subject.

Methodology

This class combines lectures by faculty on the course concepts and students' search for additional information and their class participation. The latter implies presenting the information they find as well as their contribution and participation in debates on the course topics and other topics raised by other participants. These topics will vary depending on what the groups choose to explore and, thus, vary from one edition to another. Assessment is based on individual feedback on presentations from the other groups as well as the presentations that each group gives on the topics they themselves have chosen.

Assessment criteria

Attendance and class participation: 50% of final marks for this subject
In-class exercises: 50% of marks, including group presentations on the topics addressed in this subject.
