Previous Knowledge

Students should know how to use Microsoft Office tools, essentially Excel and PowerPoint.

COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

Data visualisation is becoming an important area of research, focusing on the use of visualisation techniques that help people to better understand and analyse data with minimal efforts in terms of their interpretation.

In this subject, we will be using Tableau, the worldwide leader in business intelligence solutions. Each participant will have a free academic licence for its use.

Course Learning Objectives

- Learn about the key data visualisation principles
- Become familiar with the different data visualisation techniques and systems in the business world.
- Develop the skills to critically analyse the different visualisation techniques applied.
- Use the new visualisation techniques and tools for business.

Methodology

This subject is structured like a seminar in which students discuss the assigned readings, watch videos and take part in workshops with data visualisation tools.

Assessment criteria

1. Individugal or group exercises: 40%
2. Final project: 40%
3. Class participation: 20%

Students will only be assessed if they attend the established minimum number of sessions, both lectures and participatory sessions. Students have to attend a minimum of 80% of sessions for the first sitting and 50% for the second one. Students who do not meet this minimum will receive the mark of "Not Present". This subject is structured like a worshop and, consequently, cannot be repeated.
