COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

The aim of this subject is to help students to gain a better understanding of what our organisations expect of us from an anthropological point of view in terms of our contributions and integration and, in essence, our fit within the organisational culture.

Course Learning Objectives

Organisations establish norms to regulate employee actions and interactions and to promote certain work flows, creating incentive systems to encourage the behaviours they feel contribute to achieve the desired results. Learning about and understanding what attitudes and behaviours organisations promote and discourage are particularly important. Identifying the practices applied in a wide diversity of organisations to establish common guidelines regarding what should be done and how and, consequently, who belongs or doesn't, is the fundamental learning objective of this subject.

Methodology

Classes combine faculty lectures on conceptual issues related to the subject matter with searches by students for information and their active participation in class. This participation implies presenting the information they find as well as contributing to discussions and debates on the topics presented by others. The specific topics addressed will always vary depending on the issues the groups choose to explore. Consequently, subject editions vary from one year to the next. Assessment is based on both feedback students give other group presentations as well as feedback on their respective presentations from other students.

Assessment criteria

Attendance and class participation: 50% of the final mark.
Session exercises: 50% of the final mark, including group presentations on the topics addressed in class.
