COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
Empathic communication is one of the most important skills that any manager in a leadership position needs to have. As future business leaders, BBA students need to be able to inspire their audiences, to touch the minds and the hearts of the people they work with.
Course Learning Objectives
The aim of the session is to develop participants' communication skills across theatre techniques. Theatre tools can help them speak with passion, authenticity and authority to inspire and move their audiences.
Brilliant communication is one of the most important skills that any manager in a leadership position could have. There is a parallelism between performing as an actor and communicating in the business world.
The actor prepares himself before going on stage or before shooting a scene; he rehearses, familiarizes himself with the setting, concentrates, explores the expressiveness of his face and his body, and then connects with the audience or with the camera. Managers should follow the same path; presentation is performance.
CONTENT
1. Relaxation and concentration of the actor The need for relaxation and concentration before going on stage, how to do it across breathing. How to control anxiety. |
2. The importance of rehearsal Rehearsal versus improvisation. How to rehearse in front of the mirror. How to understand your body language and to read other actors body language meaning. |
3. Stages and audiences The connection with the audience and the importance of the stage to enrich the message. How to adapt your performance to the different stages |
4. Body language Actor's appearance, relationship between body and mind, voice, energy |
5. Motivation of the actor Motivation of the actor and "being real". How to motivate for non-motivating speeches. The importance of honesty in theatre. |
Methodology
This seminar aims to enhance participants' communication skills both at the interpersonal level as well as their public presentations.
Every session is divided into two parts: a theoretical framework and practice excercises. Exercises will allow participants to explore their expressiveness, their empathy with others, and give them tips to improve their communication skills.
Assessment criteria
The final grade will be based on the following:
- Attendance and punctuality: 30%
- Individual and group participation in class exercises: 70%
Attendance is mandatory. Attendance to the first two sessions and to a minimum of 5 out of 6 sessions is required to pass the course.
