Methodology

This subject combines lectures and participatory sessions. Throughout the subject, students will also carry out a group assignment that they will present at the end of the semester.

Faculty will introduce the different concepts, normally as lectures in the first part of the different sessions. These explanations may also include videos, case studies, short exercises, questions and debates in groups or with the entire class.

The second part corresponds to participatory sessions. In these, smaller groups of students will make use of business case studies, interactive techniques, videos and simulations to:
1. Connect theory with its application in organisations and
2. Help students to further their self-awareness and skills.

Faculty will detail and describe the learning objectives for each session as well as the proposed readings for each topic.

Teamwork
Students will work in teams to analyse and reflect on a company or organisation of their choosing or more than one if so indicated by faculty.

Teams will choose the specific topics, companies or organisations in question with faculty supervision and approval and apply the concepts and theories seen in class in their analyses. Faculty will provide tutorials to guide students through this process. Students will be required to dedicate time to these assignments outside of class. At the end of the semester, students will have to turn in these assignments in writing and then present them orally.

Specific objectives of this assignment:
1. Experiential learning in groups. Students have to look for information about the organisation or organisations they choose (documents, websites, news items, etc.) and establish contacts with the organisation/s (interviews with executives or employees, direct observation, etc.).
2. Apply the leadership and organisational behaviour concepts addressed in class to analyse people's behaviour in the organizational context.
3. Within-group observation: Students will also observe how they work as a team. Students will need to include this meta-learning component in their final presentations in class.

Assessment criteria

Assessment for this subject comprises the following:
1) Final exam: 35% of their final marks for this subject
2) Team assignment: 35%
3) Essay/reflection and theoretical analysis midway through the semester: 30%

1) Final exam: 35%
Students will be required to sit a final exam at the end of the subject. The exam will consist of multiple-choice questions related to the topics addressed in class and in the proposed readings. Marks on this exam represent 35% of final marks. Students have to successfully pass the final exam to pass the subject.

2) Team assignment: 35%
This assignment will be carried out by pre-defined groups. The assignment includes a conceptual component and the latter's practical application. The aim is for teams to relate the conceptual concepts with specific organisational situations. For this, they will have to actively seek out information, analyse and reflect on the latter.

All the members of the team will receive the same marks on this assignment if they all work equally. That notwithstanding, marks will be adjusted if there are members who do not participate or who do not actively contribute to the assignment. In this case, these team members will receive lower marks than the others and may even fail this component. All team members are required to attend and take part in the final presentation of their work. Team members will also evaluate each other throughout the semester. Failing to complete these evaluations within the established timeframes will imply subtracting 0.5 points from their marks on this assignment. All students have to participate in their respective team presentations and individually pass this team assignment to pass the subject as a whole.

3) Essay/reflection and theoretical analysis midway through the semester: 30%
The aim is for students to use and apply the motivation and leadership concepts addressed in class to analyse their own motivation and describe how they expect to develop their roles as future executives.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS TO PASS THIS SUBJECT
To pass this subject, students need to pass the final exam (minimum mark of 5 out of 10) and individually pass the team assignment (minimum mark of 5 out of 10).

To calculate final marks, faculty will compute the marks students earn on the final exam and on the other assessment components (essay and individual team assignment marks), weighted as indicated above. Students need to earn a mark of 5 (out of 10) to be able to pass the subject.

Students who fail the subject will have to re-sit the final exam. In addition, students whose individual marks on the team assignment are lower than a 5 (out of 10) will be required to complete an additional individual assignment in keeping with faculty instructions. Students will need to pass the re-sit exam (minimum mark of 5 out of 10) and individual assignment (minimum mark of 5 out of 10) in order to pass the subject in the second sitting.
