COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

It is not possible to really understand the Digital Disruption or even the organization of digital natives or transformed companies without understanding the Cloud. Cloud is the secret sauce behind it.

Computer technology is moving fast to the cloud. Data Centers are rapidly becoming something of the past. This course aims to provide a deep understanding of modern Computer Engineering using the leading Cloud Platform for it, AWS (Amazon Web Services). We will go deep and hands on with the technology using not only theoretical examples but lots of labs.

In this course, participants, if they choose so, will have the opportunity to attempt the Amazon AWS Solutions Architect Associate Certification, one of the most prestigious in the industry and enhance their cv clearly signaling their expertise in the field while waving part of the grade.

Course Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

1) Have a solid understanding of the technologies and practices in the leading digital companies, such as data lakes, data warehouses, modern databases, microservices and ways to increase resilience, performance and take advantage of rapid scalability.
2) Have a hands-on experience on how to deploy this knowledge on Amazon Web Services.
3) Be able to design solutions global computing solutions for companies, including Data Analytics & Big Data implementation in the cloud on AWS.

CONTENT

1. Intro to Cloud Platforms

A first contact with Cloud Platforms, Certifications, Materials, online courses and professional careers. How to navigate all this successfully. Plus, an intro to the AWS Cloud.

2. AWS Infrastructure

What makes unique Cloud Platforms is that they have an infrastructure impossible to replicate for any private business. We are going to examine the keys of this infrastructure.

3. Data Layer

The Data Layer is one of the basic components of a Cloud Platform. From object storage to virtual disks or virtual file systems, it¿s a foundational building block.

4. Compute Layer

The compute layer is another foundational building block. Virtual machines and their ability to scale and adjust to the precise needs of the workload are key for further building more advance services.

5. Databases

The world of databases changed a lot since the old days where a single relational database had to handle all the load. Now, non-relational, document, ledger, ¿ cope with the specific tasks of each service.

6. Data Lakes & Data Warehouses

Data Lakes and Data Warehouses are the basic constructions where data is operationalized in companies. We are going to discuss the different strategies behind all this that define the modern digital company.

7. Containers & Microservices

The compute layer got containerized and even further divided in micro-services. This is the future of computing while promising a level of transportability never seen before. We will examine this future that is already here.

8. AI & ML in Cloud Platforms

The massive use of AI & ML defines digital companies. In this last module we will approach the AI implementation in AWS and how leading companies operationalize it.

Methodology

This is a blended course where a combination of tools such as AWS videos, materials for discussions, cases and recorded labs will be used to support the knowledge of the course.

Sessions will be highly interactive combining mini-cases and discussions of digital infrastructure in modern companies with technical material corresponding to AWS.

Assessment criteria

A combination of criteria will be used to assess student performance in the course:

Class participation 10%
Labs 20%
Post-topic Questions 20%
Exam (esade or AWS) 50%
