COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
Information and communication technologies (IT) revolutionize and disrupt the way organizations produce and deliver services, their organizational structures and strategies. The tight interdependency between organizations and IT entails that business managers have to be aware of and understand the possibilities of IT for their organizations. Getting more value from IT is an increasingly important business competency.
This course aims to offer a functional and strategic managerial perspective of the technologies that constitute the backbone of organizations' operations and strategies.
Course Learning Objectives
The main goal is that students get basic managerial knowledge that enable them to better understanding the role and impact of information technologies and how technology is disrupting businesses.
These are the detailed goals:
1. Understand the value of information technologies for organizations.
2. Acquire knowledge about different types of information systems.
3. Discuss about the impact of new technological trends (such as cloud computing) on organizations.
4. Brief overview of Business Systems architecture, and main elements of an Information system strategy.
5. Brief overview of critical management topics on IT such us, cybersecurity, governance, or sourcing.
6. Introduction on how digitalization is changing the way organizations think strategically.
