Prerequisites
Students need to have passed English for Global Governance 1.
Previous Knowledge
Excellent oral and written skills in general English are expected. Students should be able to apply and communicate what they learned in the English for Global Governance 1 subject.
Workload distribution
Up to 50 contact hours plus independent study (e.g., homework, writing tasks and preparing presentations). In addition, students are expected to actively seek further learning opportunities.
COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
This subject will develop skills students need for academic life (the current programme and potential foreign exchange and Master¿s programmes) and future work in a geopolitical context.
Course Learning Objectives
The aim of this subject is to improve students¿ study skills, in addition to their written and oral communication skills.
Students successfully completing this subject should thus be able to apply their spoken and written language skills in an academic and work environment. They will be able to:
- Select, synthesise and reference appropriate sources using the Harvard referencing system
- Effectively plan and write a variety of texts relevant to the industry
- Form and develop their arguments
- Communicate effectively in interactive situations relevant to the industry
- Speak in public effectively.
Methodology
Classes are highly participatory and require students to take an active part in a variety of interactive and public-speaking tasks.
Students will write regularly during the subject on current topics relevant to their programme and in a style that is appropriate for both academia and the workplace.
Assessment criteria
Students will be assessed on both their written and oral skills.
In order to pass the subject, students must pass both the oral and written components with at least a 5 (out of 10). Both components include a mark for their participation representing at least 20% of their marks.
If students need to re-sit the final, they will only need to re-sit the part that they failed. In any subsequent re-sits, however, they will need to re-sit both parts.
There is a minimum attendence requirement of 80%. Students who do not meet this requirement may not sit the final exam and will automatically have to re-sit the exam in July.

Faculty will upload materials produced by the language team to the subject website on Moodle.
