COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

This course is divided into three modules:

Module 1: Body movement as a way to express emotions and a form of communication

Theatre is above all a form of communication, based on emotions. Actors are experts in expressing emotions. We can establish a parallelism between performing in a play and communicating in real life, between actors and non actors.

The difference between actors and non actors is the compartmentalization of mind, body, spirit. The "non actors? spend most of the day in a thinking mode (working in the office, studying at university?). Then, if they are lucky, they work-out or go for a run, so they get physical. And later, at home, they connect emotionally with friends and family. So their bodies are dissociated from what they feel and what they think, and many times their bodies betray them, their faces, their voices, their gestures reveal feelings and thoughts that are inconsistent.

On the contrary, the actor is trained to become so organically relaxed within himself that he "thinks with his body?. The actor integrates these different parts, mind, body, spirit, and have them working together and interdependently. He becomes one sensitive, responding whole, the whole of him/her is one. His body is connected with his mind and his heart, there is consistency between what he thinks and feels, and what he physically expresses.

The physical work of the actor turns into the capacity to imaginatively explore situations of time, space and character which are not real. And while engaging in these activities, he interacts with other human beings (the other actors and the audience). Therefore, the actor's work depends very much upon his knowdlege of his own body and his ability to put his intentions, his imagination, his emotions into immediate physical effect.

None of these activities of the actor is unique to him. All occur in everyday life. These processes the actor carries out his work are common to all human beings. Students, as non actors, might experience limitations to understand the their physical skills and the knowledge of their own bodies as a mean to express themselves, limitations to translate the intentions of ones mind into physicall activities or to express emotions and communicate with others through body expression.

Module 2: Leadership and Self-Consciousness

One of the most important roles of a leader, regardless of where she or he sits in the organization, is making decisions that guide an organization or unit toward success. Leaders make a variety of strategic and tactical decisions for their group, including those about the strategy of the unit, who is on the team, how the unit will function, and how resources are deployed in pursuit of a goal.

Leading a unit is a complex endeavor and involves vision, passion, the ability to make decisions under pressure and uncertainty, and the ability to motivate others toward one's vision.

This course analyzes the symbiotic relationship of the leadership elements, combining classical wisdom, recent research, and theory and practice to teach leadership.

Throughout the course we focus on leadership in the business, politics, digital, and in one's personal life.

We will use a mix of reading, discussion, case studies, team exercises and reflective exercises to achieve a better understanding of leadership and decision-making.

Module 3: Psychology and pathway to social entrepreunership

The journey of the "conscious social entrepreneur".

The workshop will be structured as a "journey" from one's own awareness and self-knowledge, to the social problems with which they resonate, the challenge they want to undertake, the design of a systemic solution to the problem and, finally, the structuring in the form of an idea and a social entrepreneurship project.

It is a "practical" and action-oriented workshop that will integrate the knowledge and skills that have been learned throughout the course.

Course Learning Objectives

Module 1: Body movement as a way to express emotions and a form of communication

Methodology

Module 1:
Sessions will be divided into two parts: a theoretical framework - a breef lecture part to expose acting techniques or tools related to the topic - and practice. The core of the session will be devoted to practical exercises that will allow participants explore their expressiveness.

Exercises will be done to extrovert the flow of energy, to break down self-consciusness and free the participant's body/think mechanisms: Simple movement games (Imagination games, vocal sound production,?), games to co-ordinate physical and vocal efforts, excercises to work on sustained concentration, dancing games, group improvisations, group and individual exercises to practice body movement in the space and body expressiveness.

Module 2:
To achieve the objectives of the course, the format of it would be based on case studies, group exercises and a mix of lectures and class discussions.

Case Studies. Generally, the first half of the sessions will be devoted to the analysis and discussion of cases. The case method is one of the most effective pedagogical tools to sharpen your analytical and decision-making skills, as it requires you to be an active participant in marketing decisions. Cases intend to give you practice in assembling data, supporting and discussing decisions. Moreover, the case method provides a vehicle by which to apply theories, concepts, and frameworks that we discuss in class or which you find in the assigned readings. Finally, the discussion constitutes an opportunity to defend your position and to learn from others, by listening to their comments and criticisms. Everything on a "safe environment?, where there are low risks when mistakes are made. Classrooms are our training environments to prepare you for business challenges.

Lecture/Discussion. These sessions are devoted to presentation and discussion of frameworks, concepts and theories that are useful for marketing practice. In general, these lectures are strongly linked to what we have discussed previously during case analyses.

Peer Evaluation: You will be asked to evaluate the rest of your group members according to their contribution to teamwork (case write-ups and group contribution). This grade could either add/subtract or maintain the average grade of the ?write-ups'.

Class participation: Grading class participation is necessarily subjective. However, I try to make it as "objective as possible?. Some of the criteria for evaluating effective class participation include:

1 Is the participant prepared? Do comments show evidence of analysis of the case? Do comments add to our understanding of the situation? Does the participant go beyond simple repetition of case facts without analysis and conclusions? Do comments show an understanding of theories, concepts, and analytical devices presented in class lectures or reading materials?

2 Is the participant a good listener? Are the points made relevant to the discussion? Are they linked to the comments of others? Is the participant willing to interact with other class members?

3 Is the participant an effective communicator? Are concepts presented in a concise and convincing way?

Research project:
We will discuss the format on the first day.

Module 3:
The course will combine theoretical knowledge with many practical cases.
There will also be group exercises and activities based on design thinking, systems thinking and theory of change.
And two special guests: a successful social entrepreneur and a recognized impact investor.
There will be some videos and a test that all students will have to take before the workshop.

Assessment criteria

YOU HAVE TO PASS EACH OF THE 3 MODULES TO PASS THE COURSE.

Module 1: Body movement as a way to express emotions and a form of communication

The assessment breakdown is as follows:
- Attendance & Punctuality (30%)
- Individual and group participation (70%)

Class participation will be graded considering several factors: interest in the class discussion, contribution to the class atmosphere, participation in class exercises, both in groups and individually.

Attendance is mandatory and is crucial for the achievement of the learning objectives, and thus we will keep track on it. Punctuality is also of vital importance for the development of the sessions. It demonstrates commitment and respect for the professor and classmates. In the sessions a certain environment will be generated based on trust, commitment and team work. When a student is late there is a disruption in the class atmosphere.
To pass this course, a minimum of 4 out of 5 sessions must be attended.

Module 2: Leadership and self-consciousness

10% Personal statement video
10% Journal
35% Class Participation
45% Research Project

Assesment reflects the quality of a student's active participation in class discussions. Much of a manager's success depends on communication; therefore effective oral communication will constitute the student's grade. Written work should be clear, logical, grammatically correct, spell-checked, persuasive, supported by examples, and backed up by citations for any data, ideas or other content used. It should represent the student's best effort. To do well on the writing assignments, you will need to incorporate and apply the course readings.

Personal Statement video 10%
To give a better idea of you and what you expect from this course, please submit a personal statement video, meeting these 3 criterias:
1. Up to 60 seconds,
2. Via wetransfer to my email
3. Using the email object PSLC2022 (each email will be automatically directed into an email folder not to be mixed with other emails)

Kindly describe your leadership and decision-making experience, including experience gained through teamwork, volunteer, family, sports and other avenues.

Journal 10%
Throughout the course, students will maintain a journal, self-provided, as a means of reflective practice. The purpose of the journal is to reflect on the course readings and discussions and how they might apply to your professional life.
The journal allows you to keep track of ideas and questions on leadership and decision-making, reactions to in-class exercises and participation, examples of good and bad practices, ideas from the readings, and thoughts on your own progression.
We will pause during several class sessions for "Ask Yourself? reflective exercises that you should include in your journal. Feel free to add items that contribute to your learning, including articles, quotes, conversations, comics, drawings, etc. Make it your own, but be aware that this journal will be evaluated by the professor, so it cannot contain information that cannot be shared with the professor.
Journals may be kept with pen/cil and paper (still amazing technologies). The best way to maximize the learning from this course is to carry the journal with and write in it frequently. The more frequently you use it, the more valuable it will become. Although the journal is for your eyes only and will not be collected or graded, it will sometimes be used as the basis of class or small group discussions, and will be very helpful in writing the Research Project.

Class Participation 35%
This course covers a significant amount of content and much of the learning comes from in-class exercises and discussion. Therefore, students are expected to attend all class sessions, complete all assigned readings and come prepared and ready to participate. Attendance will be taken and participation will be evaluated at each class session. Participation in all on-campus sessions in their entirety is mandatory, and students may not be late or leave early for any of these sessions. Failure to be in attendance for the entirety of the session will result in removal from the class.

Research Project 35%
The Research Project is meant to be a culmination of all the learnings in the class; to do well on this assignment it is imperative to draw upon the readings and discussions in presenting your analysis. You may also do outside research and must properly cite your sources. Think of this assignment as a case analysis without a previously written case where you must do the research to understand the situation and context and then make conclusions and/or recommendations.
A proposal for action, no words limit, describing your future leadership achievement, being Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Timely. In other words, what are you going to achieve and how? Describe the context challenges, your personal resources, how to make them shine, and limitations, how to overcome them.
More information on the Research Project will be available during the sessions.

Module 3

20% class participation
30% individual assignments
50% final exam
