COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM

The Corporate Finance course of the MSc in Finance will prepare you to be a financial manager and equip you with the necessary tools to make accurate investment and financing decisions. The course complements your core Corporate Valuation course, and forms the first part of a two-course sequence covering Corporate Finance.

In this course we focus, on answers to the following questions:
- Time value of money: How much is a project worth and which projects should be accepted?
- Capital structure theory: How to finance a selected investment?
- Valuation: How are corporations valued?
- Initial public offerings: How and why does a company go public?
- Payout policy: How should I pay investors?

Course Learning Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide a broad conceptual and practical foundation for analysing issues in Corporate Finance. The course is primarily case-based because it aims to enable you to apply the concepts you learn in practice.

Upon completing this course students should be able to:

? Understand and apply the theory behind the time value of money
? Understand the concepts of capital structure and be able to discuss the financing decisions of corporations
? Understand the importance of asymmetric information and signalling in capital markets and financial decisions
? Understand how firms enter the public equity market including all of its benefits, costs and interesting peculiarities
? Critically discuss the way firms conduct pay-outs to their investors

Methodology

Teaching involves traditional lecturing, business cases and discussions, and presentations.
