Course Learning Objectives

The purpose of this class is to equip students with the mindset and skills to take into account the complexity and interlinkages of sustainability challenges.
- Provide students with different integrative perspectives to address the challenges of business sustainability
- Learn how sustainability can be used as a generative forward-looking tool (imagined futures)
- Get acquainted with systems thinking and how it can be leveraged for addressing the complexity of business sustainability
- Understand the tensions and paradoxes that arise between different sustainability aspects and learn how to navigate them
- Understand the ethical challenges associated with business sustainability and learn about the ethical foundations of decision making around sustainability

Methodology

This class is designed around four mini-intensives, each focusing on one integrative view on sustainability:
1) Imagined futures
2) Systems thinking
3) Paradoxes
4) Ethics
Each of the mini-intensives stretches across two days and invites students to engage deeply with the four integrative perspectives on sustainability.

Assessment criteria

22% Grade for each mini-intensive
12% Capstone integration grade
