COURSE CONTRIBUTION TO PROGRAM
This course focuses on effective day to day communication online. We will look at best practices for online written communication (e-mails, comments, whatsaps, messengers, posts), practice and develop communication via video (meetings (Zoom, Teams, etc), webinars and prerecorded videos. Throughout the course we will look at preferred communication styles and how this affects communication with others, developing assertiveness, giving feedback, saying no, running a meeting among others. This course will be highly practical as students will develop their preferred methods of communication as well as identifying areas for ongoing improvement.
Course Learning Objectives
This course seeks to develop student's interpersonal communication, presentation techniques and teamwork in general while also developing key areas such as:
Familiarity with best practices for online communication of all types.
Increased knowledge of technical elements (lighting, sound, etc)
Key technological solutions for online collaboration and communication.
Increased self-knowledge of communication talents and limitations on and off line.
CONTENT
1. Modules This course has 5 modules one for each day:
1. Communication styles and needs 2. Teams and empathy 3. Connection and focus 4. Techniques, Technology and real life 5. Finding a balance

2. Activities Throughout the course we will use different activities to help students to develop their online communication skills. These range from running meetings to creating professional standard videos, to presenting ideas in innovative ways. Throughout the course, students will work individually and in small groups as well as sharing progress with the whole class. |
Methodology
This course uses the flipped classroom methodology with the reading and background work being done by students prior to coming to class to enhance the in-class experience. Aside from this we rely heavily on coaching and leadership techniques as well as elements of Expressive Arts Therapy, Lego Serious Play and Design Thinking.
Assessment criteria
Reading reflection - prior to coming to each class students will be given an article to read and answer a couple of questions on. After each class they will be asked to reflect on a specific question and upload their answer.
Participation - students will be assessed on how they participate in class.
Final in-class presentation - Students will create a final presentation in teams
Each student will create an individual video showcasing their online communication
