Prerrequisitos
Students will have passed English for Global Governance 2.
Conocimientos previos
Excellent oral and written skills in general English are expected. Students should be able to employ study and communication skills from English for Global Governance 2.
Distribución de la carga de trabajo
Up to 50 contact hours plus independent work (e.g. homework, writing tasks, preparation for evaluated tasks) In addition, students are expected to actively seek further learning opportunities.
Contribución de la asignatura al programa
The course will develop skills needed for academic life (current degree, foreign exchange and masters programs) and working in a geopolitical context.
Objetivos de aprendizaje de la asignatura
The aim of the course is to improve written and oral communication skills.
Students successfully completing this course should be able to apply their spoken and written language skills in an academic and work environment. They will be able to:
- Select, synthesise and reference appropriate sources using the Harvard referencing system
- Effectively plan and write a variety of texts relevant to the industry and their future studies
- Form and develop arguments
- Communicate effectively in interactive situations relevant to the industry and their future studies
- Speak in public effectively
Metodología
Classes are highly participative and require students to take an active part in a variety of interactive and public speaking tasks.
Students will write regularly during the course, in a style appropriate for academia and the workplace, about current topics relevant to their degree.
Criterios de evaluación
Both written and oral skills will be evaluated.
In order to pass the course students must pass both the oral and written component with at least 50%.
In the resits students need only take the part that they failed. In subsequent resits both parts must be taken.
There is a minimum attendance requirement of 80%. Any student who does not meet this requirement may not sit the final exam but go automatically to the resit in July.
