Distribución de la carga de trabajo
The selected team of students will first deliver a report that surveys existing literature and analytically summarizes the state of the art. The elements of the literature review will encourage the participants to critically assess existing academic studies and to contribute towards the theory of change that supports some of the financial instruments employed by one the biggest multilateral development bank in the world. This will be achieved in two interlocking steps: 1) a descriptive exploration of cases for the formulation of hypotheses and 2) devising a feasible plan to test these hypotheses. Depending on the availability of primary data, the latter includes the implementation of qualitative and quantitative techniques. The deliverables include reports that summarize findings (including case studies) and a final presentation at the EIB. The proposed timeline of deliverables include:
- Week 1: Inception report, which should include the action plan and timeline;
- Week 4: Research/Project proposal;
- Month 3: Intermediate report
- Month 5: Draft report
- Month 6: Final report and Presentation
To achieve these goals, regular meetings with the course convenor and EIB team will be scheduled to oversee the management of the project and ensure the timely delivery of tasks.
Contribución de la asignatura al programa
This capstone course?designed as a consultancy project?will allow students to better understand market gaps and failures in access to finance across sub-Saharan Africa. Given the fact that there are serious data limitations, one of the primary goals of the project is to present new evidence and thereby contribute towards evidence-based analysis that is key for policy makers, international financial institutions and private sector players.
Objetivos de aprendizaje de la asignatura
Upon successful completion of the project, the students will have a better understanding of the EIB financial instruments outside the EU, identify the bottlenecks/market gaps that prevent companies to access financing in developing countries and map opportunities/additionality/impacts of similar instruments offered by international financial institutions.
