Contribución de la asignatura al programa
This course will introduce students to some of the topics that are central to
microeconomic analysis. We will rigorously examine the classical models of consumer
behaviour, general equilibrium, and market failures. We will study how these models
are built form first principles so that students can understand how economists construct
models to simplify complex problems
Objetivos de aprendizaje de la asignatura
By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
- Understand the precise definitions of some fundamental concepts in
microeconomics (preferences, utility, competitive equilibrium, public goods,
externalities, etc)
- Rigorously analyse the assumptions and results of simple microeconomic
models.
- Understand technical literature in economic theory and other related fields.
- Understand the mathematical foundations behind the construction of
theoretical models in social sciences.
- Analyse the possible implications of different types of government interventions
in the context of a market economy.
